When I paint, I see beyond the subject and look at all the light and color that weaves in and out of the scene. I love the architecture of the old Southwest adobes as well as the Missions that line the beautiful coast of California. Painting them gives me a certain peace. I build them again through color, putting down color as I see it, even if I don’t mix or blend it, and they take on a whole new life.
Patrice Springer is a native of Culver City, California. She studied art at Santa Monica College, Woodbury University, UCLA and California State University at Northridge where she received her BA in Fine Arts.
Right now she draws her artistic inspiration from the architecture of the California Missions, Santa Fe and the adobes of New Mexico. Her paintings not only show their beauty, but also create a feeling of peace and contentment, much like the missions themselves. She applies layers of acrylic paint on canvas and board to achieve a texture that makes the color appear pure and bright.
Currently, Patrice's mission paintings are on display at the California's Heritage: The Mission Trail exhibit at the Altadena Town & Country Club. Her work has also been featured twice in The Argonaut, a Southern California newspaper and on the Del Rey Art Walk in Del Rey, California. Plus, she has been commissioned to create paintings of people’s homes, pets and other personal memories.
Patrice resides in Del Rey, California.
